Travelling South
The journey south of Broome can be made along the Warlu Way; this trek reveals the mysteries of the mystical Warlu "sea serpent" and other indigenous legends, taking you on a 2,480 km self-drive journey from Broome to Exmouth through Western Australia's Kimberley, Pilbara and Gascoyne regions.
The trek commences along the Great Northern Highway; interpretive signage along the drive opens your eyes to the secrets of this country and it's historical, cultural and natural wonders. The drive from Broome to Port Hedland offers several accommodation stops for travelers which include fabulous beaches and tidal lagoons.
The first major town is Port Hedland, the gateway to the magnificent Karijini Gorges and the oasis paradise of Millstream National Park. Explore the contrasts between the mighty resource ports of Dampier, Wickham and Port Hedland and the historic settlements of Cossack, Roebourne and world famous Marble Bar.
